Tunnel metro alignment excavated by drill and blast and Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) for approximately 6 kilometres south of Fanling, New Territories. The geology comprised highly faulted volcanic rock prone to variable degrees of weathering.
Vertical and inclined drillholes, including the Horizontal Directional Coring (HDC), extending to a maximum 250m length, advanced using mainly triple barrel rock coring. In-situ testing included permeability, water absorption and acoustic televiewers and installations, piezometer and inclinometers. Automatic Groundwater Monitoring Devices provided real time groundwater monitoring.
